City of Growth

Ready for smart business growth? Peterborough is one of the UK’s fastest growing cities and is one of the UK government’s demonstrator cities for smart innovation and technology. This means we’re developing ideas and creating value by becoming a smarter city. Find out more here.

Making Connections

We’re perfectly placed with some of the best physical and digital connections in the country. Peterborough is 45 minutes from London Kings Cross and direct trains connect us with Leeds, Newcastle, Cambridge, Leicester and Birmingham. The A1M, A47 and A14 are on our doorstep, providing direct connections to nearby Stansted Airport and quick access to Eurostar and Felixstowe ports.

A new pure fibre network delivers gigabit speed internet connectivity, giving Peterborough businesses a serious competitive advantage with some of the world’s fastest internet speeds.

Developing Resilience

Peterborough understands your challenges and is helping businesses become more resilient as part of our Future Cities work. We’re adopting innovative approaches like the Circular Economy at a city level – the first in the country. In 2015, we were awarded Global Smart City of the Year, consolidating our position as thought leaders in smart city thinking.

Thriving Talent

Significant investment in higher education brought about University Centre Peterborough  – an ultra-modern campus providing undergraduate courses in over 30 subjects. It is firmly connected with local industries and maintains a keen focus on the employability of its graduates – helping to develop highly skilled future workforces. We continue to partner with universities such as Cranfield, UCL and others on a range of projects, with Anglia Ruskin University providing specialist health and social care courses at its dedicated city site.

In 2014 the Peterborough Skills Service won a Global Best Award for addressing Youth Employability Skills and is now widely acknowledged for its free, impartial brokerage service that matches the needs of businesses with the aspirations of learners.

Outstanding Housing

Peterborough is one of the UK’s number one cities for housing stock growth. New developments include the outstanding Fletton Quays development, located on the riverfront close to the city centre. This multimillion pound redevelopment will offer high quality new homes, a luxury hotel and sky bar, restaurants, shops and offices. Further growth is also coming at the Hamptons, a series of thriving village communities to the south of the city which are thoughtfully designed to incorporate large, green, open spaces for residents who are only a short drive from Peterborough’s invaluable parkway road system.

Building Sustainability

We’re home to one of the UK’s largest clusters of environmental businesses and have an increasing international reputation for piloting innovative solutions for sustainable living through the Smart City programme. We developed the Water Innovation Network in association with Anglian Water to help bring about innovation in the water industry.

Our Future Cities programme is also helping the city work towards a more  sustainable future with its internationally renowned Circular City project. By developing a Circular Economy, the city along with its businesses and residents can reduce reliance on raw materials and keep resources circulating in the local economy for as long as possible. The project aims to have a full Circular Economy in Peterborough by 2050.

Appealing Spaces

At the heart of our city centre is the award-winning Cathedral Square. This buzzing £12m piazza regeneration was instrumental in driving new investment into the city and now accommodates big names like Turtle Bay, Patisserie Valerie, Carluccio’s, Wildwood, Bill’s and Nando’s.

Engaging Landscapes

We’re a city in touch with our rural setting and have the highest amount of urban green space per person in the country. We were voted as one of the top ten cities to raise a family and are proud of our beautiful landscapes, country parks and unique heritage.

Inspiring History

Peterborough is a city of rich history; home to one of the finest Norman cathedrals in the country and the internationally significant Bronze Age site of Flag Fen.

Nearby, the magnificent Burghley House draws visitors from all over the world, and we are honoured custodians of Longthorpe Tower which displays the finest set of medieval wall paintings in Northern Europe.
