Peterborough is one of the UK's premier inward investment destinations thanks to its central location, gigabit connectivity, affordable living costs, and transport links

The Greater Peterborough area is home to over 26,000 businesses that provide around 309,000 jobs across agri-food, advanced manufacturing, digital and IT, construction and logistics.

The city’s position within two of the UK’s leading growth areas – at the eastern end of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc and the northern end of the London-Stansted-Cambridge Innovation Corridor – will also provide huge opportunities well into the future. The government is investing heavily in housing, infrastructure, education and transport links to unlock the full potential of one of the most productive areas of the country.

£600 million masterplans

There are eight investment sites in Peterborough’s city centre whose masterplans total £600 million. These have recently been boosted with a £22.9 million grant from the UK Government’s Town’s Fund, and £76million of Government Levelling Up Fund money coming our way for Phase Three of our new ARU Peterborough university and a redevelopment of the city’s Station Quarter.

While we’re developing our new university and revitalising the gateway to our city around the train station, we are also creating new entertainment and retail opportunities, and ensuring we have quality residential properties for young families and professionals. Responding to demand, there are also plans to develop high-end commercial spaces for knowledge intensive businesses and start-ups.

A strong economy

Peterborough’s population of 216,000 makes us the second biggest city in the East of England. Broader economic resilience is further underpinned as we are a young city, with over 62-per-cent of our residents of working age.

We are also a smart city where businesses are pioneering game-changing advancements in robotics, digital manufacturing, and automation. Our circular economy credentials are also helping companies save money, improve resource efficiency, and reduce their reliance on expensive (and finite) raw materials. Testbeds are also emerging across the region to boost quality of life for residents by reducing carbon emissions and  increasing safety and comfort.

It’s an exciting time to invest in Peterborough – we’re growing fast, have public sector backing, and are working closely with the businesses here to pro-actively support their growth ambitions. Whatever your business’ goals, we have the infrastructure, skills, and assets to make things happen.
