Peterborough’s innovation portal ‘Brainwave’ launches

Posted: 28/03/2014

Peterborough’s Future Cities programme ‘Peterborough DNA’ has launched a unique innovation portal called Brainwave, an online matching engine that identifies and shares city challenges with a community of entrepreneurs and innovators who can help to solve them. This collaborative approach to problem solving is the first of its kind in the UK and will allow Peterborough to implement solutions to become a future, smarter city.

The Peterborough DNA team is encouraging people to register as a Brainwave member and upload challenges that they are facing in the city, while other members can provide their own innovative solutions. Members can also use their Brainwave profiles to request finance for their innovations. The Brainwave matching engine alerts investors with matching interests and investment appetite to businesses, products or services and facilitates an introduction which will hopefully lead to the successful financing of companies.

Brainwave is your portal to new business opportunities and there are many benefits to registering as a member, including:

  • Access to the city challenge library
  • Opportunities to submit ideas and solutions to challenge champions
  • E-bulletins highlighting opportunities tailored to your skills and interests
  • Submission of investment requests to secure finance for your innovation
  • Engagement and collaboration with other members
  • Receipt of solutions to any challenges that you post

Brainwave is just one initiative that has been developed as part of the Peterborough DNA programme, a project delivered in partnership by Opportunity Peterborough and Peterborough City Council. Peterborough DNA began last year as the city was awarded £3m by the Technology Strategy Board, under the Future Cities Demonstrator programme, to deliver both intelligent systems and interventions to transform the city.
